Seismic survey campaign is taking off in the area of the future Baltic West offshore wind farm. The campaign will be carried out by a Polish company

The 2D seismic survey campaign for the Baltic West offshore wind farm project will be carried out by a Polish company, Geofizyka Toruń, with experience in European and global markets. The scope of work includes the acquisition of approximately 3,000 kilometers of seismic lines to investigate the geological structure to a depth of 100 meters.. The surveys will take several months, and the data obtained will enable ORLEN Neptun to prepare further survey campaigns and will be used for design analyses at subsequent stages of the project. Baltic West is the third offshore wind farm being developed by the ORLEN Group. The project, located on the Oder Bank with a planned capacity of about 4.1 GW, will provide clean energy production for more than 5 million households in Poland.

"Seabed surveys are one of the stages in the initial phase of the offshore wind farm project execution. Once again, we were able to engage Polish companies to provide the services, which demonstrates the growing readiness of the local supply chain to carry out phase II offshore wind projects", says Janusz Bil, President of the Management Board of ORLEN Neptun. "Recently announced definition of the so-called local content indicates a high level of commitment by the public administration to real actions towards increasing the share of the national content in the country's strategic projects. This is not only a boost for the Polish economy, but also a key element in building energy security, especially in the current geopolitical context", he adds.

The surveys will be carried out using a specialized measuring vessel and a high-resolution 2D multichannel seismic method, enabling preliminary reconnaissance of the geological structure of the surveyed area. The results obtained will be used to further design the offshore wind farm and plan a campaign of preliminary geotechnical surveys, which is scheduled to begin later this year.

Baltic West is another offshore wind farm being developed by ORLEN Neptun as part of offshore wind phase II. The company continues its environmental surveys for the area, and plans to carry out further location surveys in the coming months, including, among other things, wind analyses. Under the current timeline, the Baltic West farm is expected to deliver its first energy from 2034 onwards.
